Connect your AI
Give your AI agent hands
Auten is the hands. Your AI is the brain.
Install the runner first (curl -fsSL https://auten.ai/install | bash). Then pick the AI you use and add Auten to it over MCP. Auten starts by itself whenever your agent needs it.
Claude Code
1.Quickest: Auten adds itself to Claude Code.
auten connect2.Or add it yourself with the Claude Code CLI, then type /mcp in Claude Code to check that auten is listed:
claude mcp add -s user auten -- auten mcp-bridge
OpenAI Codex
1.Add Auten with the Codex CLI. The Codex app and IDE extension read the same config:
codex mcp add auten -- auten mcp-bridge2.Or put this in ~/.codex/config.toml:
[mcp_servers.auten] command = "auten" args = ["mcp-bridge"]
Cursor
1.Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or .cursor/mcp.json in a project), then check Settings, MCP:
{ "mcpServers": { "auten": { "command": "auten", "args": ["mcp-bridge"] } } }
Gemini CLI
1.Add Auten for your user with the Gemini CLI:
gemini mcp add --scope user auten auten mcp-bridge2.Or add the same mcpServers entry to ~/.gemini/settings.json:
{ "mcpServers": { "auten": { "command": "auten", "args": ["mcp-bridge"] } } }
Windsurf
1.Add this to ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json, then refresh the MCP servers in Cascade:
{ "mcpServers": { "auten": { "command": "auten", "args": ["mcp-bridge"] } } }
VS Code
1.For GitHub Copilot agent mode, add Auten to your VS Code user profile:
code --add-mcp '{"name":"auten","command":"auten","args":["mcp-bridge"]}'2.Or run MCP: Open User Configuration and add it under servers:
{ "servers": { "auten": { "type": "stdio", "command": "auten", "args": ["mcp-bridge"] } } }
Claude Desktop
1.Open Settings, Developer, Edit Config (on macOS ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json) and add:
{ "mcpServers": { "auten": { "command": "auten", "args": ["mcp-bridge"] } } }2.Restart Claude Desktop. Auten shows up in the tools menu.
Zed
1.Run zed: open settings file (~/.config/zed/settings.json) and add:
{ "context_servers": { "auten": { "command": "auten", "args": ["mcp-bridge"] } } }
Cline
1.In Cline open MCP Servers, Configure, which opens cline_mcp_settings.json, and add:
{ "mcpServers": { "auten": { "command": "auten", "args": ["mcp-bridge"] } } }
Your own API key
1.No agent? Give the auten CLI your own key from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, DeepSeek or any OpenAI-compatible provider:
auten key add2.Then just say what you need:
auten "open my calendar and tell me what is next"
Your app says it can't find auten? Put the full path in command: run which auten in a terminal (usually ~/.local/bin/auten).
Prefer a remote URL?
Clients that connect over the network can use your personal MCP URL instead. It has your key in it, so it is on your account page.
Start with the runner
Paste this into your terminal on macOS or Linux, then add Auten to your agent. Windows is coming soon.
