How Auten learns a task once and does it without AI after that

Most AI agents start from zero every time. You ask them to fill in the same form on Monday and on Friday, and both times a model looks at the screen, thinks, clicks, looks again. You pay for that thinking twice, and you wait for it twice.

Auten works differently. The first run is done by AI. Every run after that is done from memory.

Run one: AI works it out

You describe the task in plain words, for example open the contact page and send a test inquiry. The AI looks at the list of buttons and fields on your screen, decides what to press and what to type, and the runner on your computer does it. When the page confirms the result, the run counts as a success.

What gets saved

After a successful run Auten writes the steps down as a skill. A skill is not a screen recording. It is a short list of actions aimed at named elements: press the button called Contact, fill the field called Email, press Send. The values you typed become parameters, so the same skill works with a different name, email or message next time.

We also clean the recording before it is saved. If the AI typed a name, changed its mind and typed it again, only the final value stays. If it scrolled up and down looking for the form, the scrolling collapses into one move to where the form actually is. What remains is the shortest path that reached the result.

Run two and later: a replay

The next time you ask for the same kind of task, Auten finds the skill and replays it directly. No model is asked what to do, so there is no AI cost and far less waiting. In our own measurement the same task took 17 seconds with AI and 9 seconds as a replay.

For tasks that send or change something, the skill also remembers what success looked like, such as a Thank you, your message was sent notice. A replay is only counted as done when that confirmation appears again.

When the app changes

Websites get redesigned and buttons move. When a replay cannot find a step, Auten does not guess. It hands the task back to AI from that point, lets it find the new way, and updates the skill with the version that worked. The more a task is used, the less it needs AI.
